Abstract

This study investigated farmers’ contribution to planning agricultural extension activities and their future participation in Lahj Governorate by assessing current involvement, willingness for future participation, influencing factors, key forms of participation, and main constraints. The study was conducted in Al-Houta District using a random sample of 150 farmers (25% of the population). Data were collected through personal interviews using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results indicated that most respondents were middle-aged, with high illiteracy levels and small agricultural and livestock holdings. Farmers’ participation in planning extension activities ranged from moderate to high among about half of the respondents, while nearly three-quarters reported moderate to high willingness for future participation. Key determinants of willingness included diversification of production activities, current participation level, livestock holding size, and availability of participation opportunities. The main forms of participation were experience exchange and attendance of extension activities, whereas major constraints included shortages and weak expertise of extension staff and lack of incentives..
